Jenny Hamilton costume designs

Another Ryedell character, this time starting as a sketch but eventually getting too fun not to finish. Jenny's a fairly minor character, the older sister of the female half of the B-plot romance, and I was trying to find a gig for her other than 'bossy-but-responsible older sister' and decided that she would be the resident fashionista-in-training, as in 'orders custom designs from catalogues, makes own clothes, saves up to go to NYC fashion shows' kind of dedication. Like Nathan, she's a not-quite-human who wants to become one, but for different reasons. Something of a comic character-she sees it as her holy mission to get people dressing nattily again and banish the menace of ratty jeans and T-shirts in public (it's 1995 in canon, so there's a lot to banish). She also thinks that ubertomboy Melissa would make a good canvas for her various new designs, and keeps trying to convince/trick her to do the girly-makeover equivalent of going under the knife (under the lipstick?) until Melissa eventually starts fleeing her on sight. As the story draws near its climax, though, she'll play a much bigger Chekhovian role.

The first (80's clubber/belly dancer/video game damsel-in-distress combo) and third (Daddy's little cute Edwardian steampunk nerd) are kind of ridiculous, but she's an envelope-pushing character when it comes to clothes. Mostly I like this drawing because it got me thinking about expanding my horizons when it comes to costuming my characters.
