Two Meals

I've scanned in the work I've done in my Beginning Illustration class that I felt was worth sharing, and I'll be uploading them in chronological order. I edited for color/contrast correction, cropping, and removing my real name where it appeared, with the occasional editing of the images themselves where I felt they needed it.

The second gouache assignment and the third out-of-class assignment, things really kicked into high gear after this. The theme was to create an image with two halves that related to each other in some vague, possibly ironic or disjoined way. I wasn't intentionally going for two still-lifes of food with gouache, but it's what came out of the brainstorming. The professor liked it-it was the first of three A's in a row he gave me (in his class, A+ is astronomically rare-you basically have to produce something that could pass for a final-draft professional commission)-and I was pretty proud of it myself. I think the toughest task I took on here-painting a glass of ice water from a top-down perspective using thick, oily paint-turned out fairly well, actually. And I like the graphic pop-art-ness on the bottom.
